In a bid to avoid relegation, the Foxes have sounded out former Manchester City boss Mancini to see if he would be interested.
The 52-year-old has been spoken to and Leicester are understood to have been told he would be interested in the role – although at this stage no firm talks have taken place.
And on Friday morning, Mancini tweeted a message stating his sorrow at Ranieri’s dismissal.
I am sorry for my friend #Ranieri. He will remain in the history of @LCFC, in the heart of #Leicester fans and all football lovers.
Mancini led Man City to their first ever title in 2012.
Sources claim Mancini may even be willing to accept a short-term role with the Foxes until the end of the season, with the option to walk away if he is unable to keep them up.
